Your Brand Identity, Why it Matters

According to Investopedia, your brand identity includes the visible elements of your brand – such as color, design, and logo, which identify and distinguish your brand in your consumers’ minds. Let’s take a look at Apple and Nike, for example – we all know (in the forefront of our minds) what their respective logos look like…am I wrong? Apple is currently valued at $2.08 Trillion; Nike at $30.44 Billion.

…and to think – it all started with an Apple and a checkmark logo, respectively!

However, when we get more into local examples – consider WaWa and The Philadelphia Inquirer brands to paint a “scalable” picture.

Two completely different industries with similarly loyal customer bases. WaWa and The Inquirer are both popular enough to offer loyalty incentives (such as 75% off Sunday newspaper specials, and discount incentives for repeat WaWa customers). I reminisce on how my 2013 October surf sessions at the Jersey Shore were inextricably tied to a morning Pumpkin Spice Coffee from the local WaWa – same thing with 2021 baseball games in the Greater Philadelphia area.

WaWa is tied to the experiential value of my recreational activities – this should similarly resonate with respect to your customers and your company’s appearance.

...But Isn't Brand Identity Important Everywhere?

Brandon Rost, president and CEO of beMarketing in Blue Bell, PA grew his company’s bottom-line revenue by 50% from 2016 to 2018 simply with a consistent, disciplined brand management campaign!

Am I asserting that your logo design will increase your company’s profit margins in two weeks? No. Two months? Probably not. However, what I am advocating is an:

A.) Attractive/Visually Appealing; B.) Disciplined; C.) Consistent approach to your company’s brand identity – as your competitors are undertaking in the City of Brother Love. A strategic, methodical approach to creating a brand image that will resonate with your customers can translate to long-term brand equity, as Kevin Keller’s expert graph depicts below!

The more relevant your brand is to your customers – the greater likelihood you have of acquiring Lifetime Valued Customers (how’s that for Marketing 101?).
